Yet Another Review of "Jab Harry Met Sejal"

08:01:00

Slightly delayed but here goes. For those who have seen the movie, read on to see if we had similar thoughts; for those of you who are yet to watch it, this review might help you decide! I solemnly swear that this review will be as spoiler free as possible.

The name suggested that it would be a rip off of the Hollywood "When Harry Met Sally" but it turned out to be a (not so subtle) replication of "Jab We Met". The similarity between the themes of both films is uncanny: the eccentric female protagonist, the hero (unwillingly) helping his female counterpart with a task, the series of hilarious events, the life-altering interactions that fulfill the lack of soul and meaning in the hero's life, as well as the Punjabi touch leading to some catchy dance numbers. Other than the 'duplicate' content, there was little originality brought to the table. Even though Imtiaz Ali has a history of providing audiences with good entertainment, I am slightly disappointed that he would remake a ten-year old film and market it as a novel story!

What you seek is seeking you- deep but not explored fully in the film!

Honestly though, the duplication didn't bother me as much as the modern take on love (same problem I had with Befikre). Semi-spoiler ahead: Sejal (played by Anushka Sharma) unnecessarily leading Harry (Shahrukh Khan) on was distasteful and forced into the equation. Whilst the film-makers claimed that the story is about a girl and her newfound freedom, it came across more as an endorsement of extra-marital relations.

That being said, the movie was actually pretty enjoyable (without your family) because of three things:

1. The scenic locations

Prague to Budapest, the cinematography is amazing!

2. The songs (very catchy and memorable)

Omg...this song..

3. And last but by far not the least, Shahrukh Khan!

Now, if you have EVER been a Shahrukh Khan fan,  you NEED to watch this movie only for the sake of some heartfelt SRK romance. From the apt dialogue delivery to those eyessssss- he melts your heart through the screen. He did absolute justice to the role and as much as I don't want to admit it, his and Anushka's on-screen chemistry is on-point. Not to forget, Shahrukh Khan looks smokinn! I am a die hard fan of the DDLJ, KKHH, K3G and Mohabbatein SRK and his acting in JHMS transported me back to that era *goes back into the-unrealistic-expectations-of-true-love bubble and stays there*

I'd rate it as:
Enjoyable/Good/Bearable/Watch Once or Twice (only for SRK)

Also, I am eager to hear your thoughts on the film, comment below and let me knoww!
